About NoiseMap

NoiseMap is an independent urban noise monitoring project. We collect residents’ reports, visualize hot spots and help people find quieter areas. Data is open and verifiable.

The project turns scattered noise complaints into a clear picture by area, street and yard. We do not replace official oversight but provide residents, activists, property managers and researchers with a tool for analysis and evidence for dialogue with authorities. All reports are moderated; aggregated data powers the heatmap, location statistics and city pages.

The project is not owned by commercial entities, property managers or developers. We do not sell personal data or track users. Aggregated statistics and the map are available to everyone; city pages are generated automatically as complaints accumulate. If you represent a city administration, media or research group — contact us via the feedback form.

New cities and districts are added regularly. The map covers Russia and neighbouring countries; data is updated as reports are moderated. We aim to make NoiseMap a useful tool for residents, activists and city teams.

The noise map does not replace official complaint channels. We complement them: we give residents a way to quickly record an incident, see the overall picture for their area and prepare evidence for dialogue with property managers, police or oversight bodies. The more people add points to the map, the more accurate the statistics and the more useful NoiseMap becomes for the whole community.

What the noise map is and how to use it

Urban noise is one of the main quality‑of‑life issues in apartment buildings. Renovation works at weekends, loud music from cafés, night parties in courtyards, barking dogs and shouting are all familiar to city residents. Official statistics on noise complaints are often fragmented, so residents and city services lack a clear picture.

NoiseMap aggregates residents’ reports on an interactive map, shows heat zones of noise by districts and calculates statistics by type of noise, time of day and trends. The map updates in real time as moderated reports are approved. You can add your own points, see where complaints cluster and use links to specific places when dealing with property managers, police or public health authorities.

How to use the noise map

On the map you can switch between clusters and heatmap, change the period (hour, day, week, year) and add your own reports by clicking on the map. Accurate type, level and time of day make the data more useful for everyone.

Legal channels

NoiseMap does not replace official complaint channels. If noise violates your rights, contact the police, property manager or relevant authorities and, where appropriate, attach links to NoiseMap locations to show that the problem is systemic.

Cities and locations on the map

Go to dedicated city and district pages with detailed articles, analytics and a mini‑map of residents’ reports. New locations appear as reports are added and moderated.

Data updates

Statistics and the list of cities are updated as new reports are added and moderated. Only confirmed reports appear on the map; aggregated data per location is recalculated regularly.

Aggregated metrics (average noise level, share of night complaints, number of reports per period) are recalculated on a schedule. City pages contain articles and FAQ generated from accumulated data. Moderation filters out spam, insults and obvious abuse; we don't verify every case on site, but we aim to keep the map clean and useful.

How to choose a quiet area when moving

Before buying or renting an apartment, it's useful to check the noise map in the area you're interested in. Pay attention to the number of complaints per year, average noise level and share of night reports — a high percentage of night complaints suggests the problem isn't just during the day. The heatmap shows "hot" zones: near busy roads, construction sites, venues with terraces or courtyards with active nightlife there are usually more points. Compare several districts on city pages — they have detailed statistics and text descriptions.

Note: the map reflects user activity. Few complaints in an area can mean either real quiet or that residents don't use NoiseMap yet. Use the map as one source of information alongside visits at different times of day and neighbour reviews.

Frequently asked questions about the noise map

Is registration required? No. You can add a point without an account. We use technical data (IP, cookie) only to protect against spam.

How long does moderation take? Usually from a few minutes to a few hours during business hours. The point will appear on the map after review.

Can I delete my point? Yes. Open the point on the map and click "Delete". The request goes to a moderator — this protects against mass deletion of inconvenient reports.

Does NoiseMap replace contacting police or property manager? No. The map is a recording and analytics tool. For official complaints, contact the relevant authorities, attaching a link to the map location if needed.

How accurate is the data? Noise level is a user's subjective assessment, not a decibel meter reading. The map reflects resident activity: the more people use NoiseMap in an area, the more complete the picture.

При использовании Сервиса вы обязуетесь:

  • Предоставлять достоверную информацию
  • Не использовать Сервис в незаконных целях
  • Не добавлять ложную или вводящую в заблуждение информацию
  • Не нарушать права третьих лиц
  • Не использовать автоматизированные системы для массового добавления данных
